Abstract: Determination of several physical-chemical characteristics including meltingpoint, specific rotation, ultra-violet absorp-tion spectrum, infrared absorption spec-trum, nuclear magnetic resonance, massspectrum and element composition etc. in-dicated that an oxidation product of 16β-mothyl-5α-Δ~(9(11))-pregnene-3β, 17α, 21-triol-20-one-21-acetale (I) converted by Arth-robacter No. 9-2 was identified as 16β-methyl-9α, 11α-epoxy-Δ~1, 4-pregnadiene-17α, 21-diol-3, 20-dione (IV). It was foundthat cobaltous chloride was an efficientfactor for regulating the accumulation ofproducts 16β-methyl-Δ~1, 4,9 (11) -pregna-triene-17α, 21-diol-3, 20-dione (II) and(IV). The mechanism of epoxidation byArthrobacter No. 9-2 was discussed.
