Abstract: In 1974, professon L. Müller, the well-known engineering geologist, took Engineering Geology in Today as a title in which he set forth the function of engineering geology in engineering construction, the relationship between engineering geology and soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and so on. Now the author also takes Engineering Geology in Today as the title and demonstrates the following problems:(1) The research field of engineering geology should be extended. It should not only serve concrete engineering construction, but also must be extended to involve the prediction and prevention-cure of geological disaster resulting from natural geological action and action of man's excavation and accumulation. This subject has become a great practical task-taking precautions against disaster and can be mentioned in the s me breath with the mineral resources and energy resources exploration.(2) The study of engineering geology must do the prediction of the second-geo-environment on the basis of the research of first-geo-environment. Engineering geology cannot be separated from environmeatal geology.(3) Today the task of engineering geology must not only deal with couditious of enginee ing geology, but also should involve the whole field from design, construction to reformation of geological body, which are related to engineering activities of geological body. The author considers that engineering geology of today should develop towards geological engineering, which strictly Spesking can be called environmental-geological engineering.(4) The controlling theory of geological structure is put forward in the acticle, which is the basic theory of the study of engineering geology or environmental-geological engineering.(5) The principle, programme and technique of reformation of rock mass are discussed in the article.In addition, difficult tasks the chinese engineering geologists are faced with in 2000 are also discussed briefly.
