Abstract: The exogenous reservoir-induced earthquakes are systematically summed up according to the data of China and other countries in the world and primarily classified into 5 generic types:induced by karst collapse and air explosion in carbonate rocks, solution collapse of easy-to-dissolve rocks, landslide and rockfall, freeze fracturing, and load relieving on the crust surface. Moreover. some typical events and their possible origin mechanisms are also briefly discussed. It is pointed out that investigating the exogenous RIE and differentiating them from the iectonic ones would have a cousiderable significance for engineering and environmental geology and would be helpful to evaluate the seismic risk for various construction sites.
