Abstract: Male Wistar rats (60±8g)received a single iv. injection of N-nitroso[methyl-~(14)C] benzylamine ( 2.5mg/kg body weight )after drinking tea or tap water for 2-3 weeks. Three to four hours after injection of the carcinogen, the methylation of purine bases in the DNA isolated from various organs was measured by high performance liquid chromatography and liquid scintillation counter. The results showed that in the tea-drinking rats there was a significant reduction of 0~6- mathylguanine formation in the esophageal DNA as compared with the control rats. No O~8-methylguanine was detected in the lung or liver DNA.
