Abstract: The "hefei swelling clay"is Widely used as em-bankment fills in the construction of 312--road inAnhui Provine. It has high to moderate swelling po-tential of this Clay will be largely reduced and itsengineering properties greatly improved if 6% limeadded. Itis is recongnized that there are compli-cated actions between the soil and lime, resulting inthe formarion of a new microstructure-aggregate-skeleton structure,by which the engincering prop-e ties of the swelling clay are improvel.
