Design and Experimental Study on the Point Absorber Wave Energy Device with Flexible Pump

Abstract: The point absorber wave energy conversion technology is an important research direction, and model test is a vital foundation for the technology. This paper introduces a novel point absorber wave energy device with flexible pump, whose main body for energy conversion consists of oscillating buoy and flexible pump. The model flume experiment of the wave energy device was established to analyze the effects of wave factors and the structural characteristics of flexible pump on the energy conversion efficiency of the system. Experimental results show that the model conversion efficiency is greatly affected by the inlet/outlet area ratio and area size of the flexible pump. The average energy conversion efficiency is higher when the inlet/outlet area ratio of the flexible pump is 0.6 and the outlet area is 7.85 cm2. The model test can provide a reference for assessing the energy conversion efficiencies of similar type wave energy devices.
