Research on the Wave Power Conversion Technology Using Primary Permanent Magnetic Linear Generator

Abstract: A novel tube primary permanent magnetic linear generator(TPPMLG) is proposed for wave energy extraction, which has a concise secondary structure, with both the permanent magnets and armature windings placed in the primary structure. This paper presents the basic structure and composite structure of the generator,and analyzes its operational principles. The transient finite element method(FEM) is employed to simulate and study the non-load and load characteristics of the generator, and derive the simulation results which are compared with the features of typical tube linear synchronism generators. A prototype of linear synchronism generator is used to verify the correctness of the FEM. The analysis results indicate that the proposed generator has the advantages of sinusoidal voltage, minor cogging force, high conversion efficiency and good performances in low-speed power generation. This kind of generator is well suitable for the application of wave energy conversion.
