Load Analysis of a 120 kW Horizontal Axis Tidal Current Power Generation Turbine

Abstract: This paper briefly introduces the development status of tidal current turbines. Taking a 120 kW turbine as an example, the load analysis method is presented for tidal current turbines. Based on the analysis of the tidal current data in the proposed testing sea area, a simulation model of the turbine is established using the Bladed software. The designed load cases that the turbine may encounter when operating are defined, before completing the load calculation under all cases. By processing the load results, the extreme and fatigue loads are obtained,which can be applied in the design, calculation and type selection of key parts and components of the turbine.The proposed load analysis method is feasible and of a universal significance, but the definition of load cases and the processing of load results still require amendment and improvement based on long-term monitoring data of the operating turbine.
