Research on a Kind of Horizontal Wave Flow Generation Device

Abstract: By introducing the basic principles of a kind of novel horizontal wave flow generation device, important parameters, including torque and power, total energy and energy conversion efficiencies under different flow rates,are discussed in the aspects of theoretical calculation, simulation analysis and sea test. In theoretical calculation,formulas related to vertical axis turbine were used for reference, with the effect of partial waves taken into account. In simulation analysis, in line with the Reynolds Equation, the control equation and turbulence model were selected to simulate power generation performance parameters under different flow rates. During sea test,according to design requirements, the device, connected with floating submerged body, was transported by ship.After connection, start-up and testing, its working conditions were monitored and tested in a real-time way to obtain the actual data and information. The results show that the turbine can be started at a low flow rate of0.23 m/s, without the requirement of reversing. The spindle transfer torque and power increase at first and then decrease, and the maximum torque and power values appear at the flow rate of 1.5 m/s. The energy conversion efficiency can reach a peak of 35.65%, with the largest unit capacity up to 459 W.
