Study on the Hydrodynamic Prediction Method for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

Abstract: Autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs) will be widely used for marine search and rescue in the near future. To solve the problem of hydrodynamic coefficient prediction in dirigibility optimizing of AUV design, the fat-thin index of AUV hull is applied in the hydrodynamic prediction and a five-parameter model is established for the geometric description of AUV. This paper presents a method to predict the hydrodynamic coefficients by using wavelet neural networks, confirms the structure of the networks and designs a series of hull models as the swatches for network study by using the method of uniform design. The research results indicate that for the wavelet neural network method, suitable input parameters, study swatches and net structure result in accurate hydrodynamic prediction for AUVs.
