Abstract: Currently, mechanical current meters used in the marine monitoring and observation industry have the disadvantages of high power consumption, short continuous working duration, low attitude measurement accuracy, large size, small storage capacity and complex access to maintenance, leading to instability and inconvenience in long-duration ocean observation. Aiming to solve this practical problem and improve the performance of current meters, the electronic circuit of mechanical current meters is redesigned, with the STM32F103 ZE as the core processor and utilizing lithium ion batteries as well as storage, sensor, wireless charging and wireless communication technologies. The results of prototype testing show that the power consumption is reduced and attitude measurement accuracy is improved significantly and it can work stably for a long time in underwater environment with easy access to maintenance. The newly-designed current meter can fully meet the requirements of sea flow measurement in various marine operations and has great application value.
