Temperature Effect on Mechanical Properties of NBR-based Stator Rubber for Progressing Cavity Pump

Abstract: In order to improve the service life of stator rubber used in the progressing cavity pump stator, NBR based rubbers with different acrylonitrile contents are chosen as the experimental materials and their variations in weight, volume, tensile strength and so on before and after immersion experiment are investigated according to the actual work environment. The results show that with an increase in the tempera-ture of crude oil, the weight, volume and elongation at break of the NBR rubber with low acrylonitrile content increase and its hardness de-creases, while the NBR rubber with high acrylonitrile content shows the opposite tendency. The tensile strength of three kinds of NBR rub-bers decreases with the increase in the temperature of crude oil. The NBR rubber with high acrylonitrile content shows the better heat resis-tance and mechanical performance due to its dense microstructure.
