Numerical Simulation of Riveting Interference Fit of Aircraft Thin-walled Structures

Abstract: In order to improve the predictability of aircraft riveting process test, build numerical simulation model of aircraft thin-walled structures riveting interference fit. The model uses finite element software ANSYS LS-DYNA, carry out the numerical simulation of a single rivet interference fit dynamic riveting process. Analyze the relationship between process parameters at different overhang and the amount of interference formed by caulking and the corresponding fatigue life. Simulation results show that when meeting the same size and appearance requirements under heading with extended amount of caulking between 1.1D to 1.2D, the riveting interference value distribution is uniform with the highest quality and maximum fatigue life.
