Clue Investigation and Awareness Survey of Leprosy Among Transient Population with Residence Permits in Hongkou District of Shanghai

Abstract: Objective To investigate the leprosy infections among transient population with residence permits in Hongkou District of Shanghai,and to evaluate the awareness of basic knowledge on leprosy control. Methods A cross sectional anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted among 2002 residence permits population in the area by using statistical software 16.0. Results No cases of leprosy were found during the investigation, and the overall leprosy knowledge awareness rate was 76.6%. The awareness rate of the basic knowledge of leprosy as route of transmission, early symptoms, diagnosis and treatment agencies, curability and free treatment policy were 88.0%, 68.7%, 74.5%,85.6% and 77.3%, respectively. Conclusion Targeted leprosy health education should be launched out according to the characteristics of the target group and their awareness rates in a more direct and accessible way.
