Determination of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone in air of workspace by gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorous detector

Abstract: [Objective] To establish a method for the determination of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) in workspace air by gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorous detector (GC-NPD).[Methods] NMP in the air was collected by activated carbon tube and desorbed by acetone,and then the samples were determined by GC-NPD.[Results] The average desorption efficiency of acetone was 98.6%.The measured value of NMP showed a good linear relationship with the concentration at the range of 0.08-50.0 μg/ml,the linear equation was y=4×106x+3 559.6 (R2=0.999 3),and the detection limit was 0.03 μg/ml.The relative standard deviations (RSD) of inter-day and intra-day precision were 1.6%-3.5% and 1.9%-3.2%,respectively.The method was used to determine the concentrations of NMP in the air of workspace,and the value was 1.9-28.6 mg/m3.[Conclusion] The developed method is fast,sensitive and accurate,which is suitable for the determination of NMP in the air of workspace.
