General Design and Optimization for Deep Ocean Profiling Float Based on BLISCO

Abstract: Profiling floats are widely used in the international "Argo" plan, mainly collect the sea water temperature, salinity, depth and other physical parameters by ascending or descending motions. In order to meet the needs of scientific research, it’s necessary to extend regular 2 000 m profilesto deeper depth. So a superior performance of the deep ocean profiling float needs to be designed. In the view of the characteristics of the deep ocean profiling float, based on the parameters of the hydraulic system, aiming at 100 measurement profiles,considering the freeboard height on the sea surface and the volume compression in the deep ocean environment and the connection and coupling between the each modules, a multidisciplinary design optimization model for conceptual design of deep ocean profiling float is established. BLISCO multidisciplinary design optimization method is used to derive the optimal solution. The optimized total weight is 48.773 kg. Compared with the 4 000 m deep ocean profiling float in Japan, the weight is reduced by 2.52% and the number of measurement profiles are increased by 30. The design optimization results show that the design of this type of deepocean profiling float can meet the measurement requirements in deep ocean environment, and the performance is better than that of Japan’s 4 000 m deep ocean profiling float.
