Design and Realization of a Constant Velocity Drawing Device of Polar Towing Buoy

Abstract: In order to study the influence of floating polar ice on the movement of ice-based towed buoy underwater, a constant speed towing device was designed to simulate the directional movement of the polar buoy,which was used to study the fluctuation rule of towing buoy at different drifting speed quantitatively and to provide data support for the towing buoy designing. The device takes PLC as the main Controller, the stepper motor as the actuator, the encoder as the calculator in order to calculate the traction speed. The traction speed is kept constant by PID algorithm. The controlling interface of upper computer is designed with LabVIEW, which can control and monitor the status of PLC, and display and store the traction speed value. The experimental results show that the device can reach an error less than2% within the distance of 600 meters, which has met the controlling requirements of quantitative ice drifting speed simulation. In the static water towing tests of buoy, the device was used to simulate the low speed drifting of the buoy with wind, which can give the maximum underwater depth of the towing body in a quantitative manner. That is of great importance for the development of the polar towing buoy system and the inspection before deployment.
