Study on the Design of Walker for People with Weak Lower Limb Support Strength Based on FBS Model

Abstract: The study is carried out in order to change the single function and incapability of supporting long-distance walk of the walker and meet the need of out-patient activities and leg rehabilitation training of the leg rehabilitation trainers. The main idea of design research is determined by FBS(Function-Behavior-Structure) model. Firstly, the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly and the leg disabled are analyzed. According to the characteristics analysis results, the travel demand of the elderly group and rehabilitation and travel needs of rehabilitation trainers are summarized. Then the functional requirements of the design are derived from the needs of the users; Secondly, the FBS model is used as the design framework to perform functional-behavior-structure mapping to guide the design tasks and steps of the walker products; Finally, the structural module of the walker is obtained, and the rationality of the walker design is verified by design examples. In conclusion, the design of the walker based on the FBS model for weak limbs is beneficial to optimize the user’s product experience, and also provides solutions for the user’s needs to the product design and development.
